Josh is so excited when it snows. He can't wait to go outside to play in it. When the first snow hit, he quickly grabbed his coat, gloves and hat. Hmmm. Do you think he's forgetting anything?

Josh was determined to carve a pumpkin this year. I'm not one for carving, so I tried to talk him out of it. Since he's so persistent, we carved a pumpkin, or should I say Dad carved a pumpkin. As soon as Ryan made the first cut, Josh became disenchanted with our project. He didn't want to touch the "slimy guts"and he didn't like the smell. The best part for Josh was lighting the candle when it was all done.

Josh and I tagged along with our friend's preschool to Black Island Farm. It's a local pumpkin patch with lots of fun activities for the kids. Josh loved picking out the perfect pumpkin. His favorite for the day was the "huge slide".

One of Josh's favorite things to do every October is to see the witches at Gardner Village. He loves to check out each witch and get his face painted. Mom loves to visit the fudge shop and the Christmas store (sadly, it's no longer there). This year we went with Dad (who swears he will never go again) and both Grandmas. Josh was so excited to have his face painted with Spiderman.

Cindi, Kira, Josh and I decided to take a small hike up Muellar Park. Not being in the best shape and pregnant, I wasn't too sure, but I gave it a go. I did well. Josh on the other hand asked to stop for a break every ten seconds. On our way back down, Josh didn't want to slow down. He slipped and "fell off the side of the mountain." Luckily he didn't get hurt, just a few scrapes. Thanks to Cindi who went down and rescued him!

Summer Camping...

So I'm still trying to blog about our summer...

While Cindi and Kira were visiting we took a mini-camping trip up to Monte Cristo. It was beautiful up there. The weather was a little on the cool side (freezing at night), but it was perfect. Josh had so much fun with Kira.

The boys went grouse hunting during the day. Sadly, no grouse. While they were gone, the girls watched over camp. We played our favorite - SkipBo!

We had a campfire and roasted marshmallows. As always they were messy. Josh enjoyed them...(FYI that's a burnt marshmallow in Josh's mouth. I know, it looks disgusting~!)

In August, we had our first "big" ultrasound, which produced a modest baby who did not want to share it's gender. Surprisingly I was OK with that. I even considered not finding out at all. But those who know me well, know that that wouldn't last long. I've got a nursery to decorate and baby stuff to prepare for.

Our next appointment was Sept. 2. As the ultrasound started, baby was breech. It wasn't moving at all. The doctor thought we were going to have another secret ultrasound. I told her to poke, prod or whatever it took to move it around. And so she did. She began bouncing on my stomach. Sure enough baby decided to kick it's legs up.

"Looks like we have a misses!"

After telling Josh that meant it was a girl, he scowled at the doctor and hid under the chair. It was not the response he was looking for.

Before the appointment, I myself wasn't sold on the idea of a girl. But the minute she was announced I was so excited! I can't wait to meet this little girl!

Everything is looking great and we hope that will continue. We are still on track for Addison Grace's arrival sometime mid-December.

Summer Fun...

Between getting over morning sickness, not having a functioning camera, the heat, and just pure laziness, I haven't been too good at blogging this summer. So here's a quick recap of what we've done so far (in no particular order)...

Josh and Ryan have been out fishing. Unfortunately no luck in catching anything...

We went with Grandma Jan and Trevor to Heritage Park. Josh's favorite were panning for gold and riding the ponies...

Josh loves to help Ryan with the yard work. Won't be too long before he's going solo...

Ryan and I celebrated our 10th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, Josh helped me make a fun dinner. Josh's pick - King crab legs! They were delicious.

So you may be wondering why it's been so long since our last post. We've been busy - OK not really busy, more pre-occupied. And it's finally time to tell why...

Our family is growing! Our new arrival should be here in December.

Josh is so excited to be a big brother. He swears it's a boy. For awhile when asked "What if it's a girl?", he would respond "I'll send her back!" Now he's become a bit more receptive to having a sister, but he still thinks it's a boy. Mom and Dad aren't quite sure. We'll find out hopefully in July.

I'm doing alright. The doctor put me on progesterone as a precaution. So far it's working perfectly. Although, it makes me extremely dizzy and light-headed, leaving me useless. So our house has been in a major disarray for these last six weeks. Luckily Ryan doesn't complain too much :)

We'll keep you posted on how things are going...

Remember in my last post about soccer I told you Josh wasn't the next David Beckham...Well I could be wrong. Josh surprised us all at his next soccer game. He was the top scorer with FOUR GOALS!!! Although they don't keep score, his team won 6-2. He did awesome. Although still a bit timid, he wasn't afraid to get in there to get the ball. He loves soccer!

Josh was taking a bath in my tub. I thought it would be fun to add some bubbles. I forgot how even just a small amount of bubble bath can explode when combined with jets. Josh had fun pretending to be the Abdominal Snowman.

Josh has started to play soccer. We signed up with the Clearfield Tiny Tots. He has been looking forward to this for weeks! He was so excited to get his soccer gear, especially his shirt.

Watching a bunch of three and four year olds trying to play soccer is hilarious. At the beginning, Josh just stood there biting his fingernails. After some encouragement from us and his coach, he joined in on the fun. He's still a little timid to get in and get the ball, but he's doing better. Who knows, perhaps we'll have a future David Beckam? Probably not, but he may surprise us :)

Baby Animal Days...

It's that time of year again - Baby Animal Days at the American Heritage Museum in Wellsville. Due to the great price, we pre-purchased our tickets. If we didn't already have our tickets, I'm not sure we would have gone. The weather was awful!!!

Snow + Rain + Farm = Cold muddy mess!

Josh's cousin, Trevor was here to join in the fun. Despite the lack of animals and activities, the boys had a blast! Josh surprised us all - he actually held the animals. He loved holding the baby ducks, all cuddled up to his neck.

Unfortunately we didn't stay very long. Nothing like a two hour car ride (there & back) for a thirty minute visit. Thanks to Grandma Jan and Trevor for the fun day!

I love celebrating holidays. St Patrick's Day is no exception. Josh had fun pinching everyone who forgot to wear green.

This year we had leprechans visit and play tricks on our house while we were at Grandma's house for dinner, Corned Beef and Cabbage of course. They came in and tipped all our pictures (one didn't make though, it broke) and put chairs on the table. Those silly leprechauns were so busy playing tricks in our house they didn't notice they spilled some of their gold (Rolos, Reses Peanut Butter cup, etc).

We drove seperate to dinner, Ryan got home first and called Josh to tell him we had visitors.
I thought Josh would be so excited. I couldn't have been more wrong. Josh complained about it the ENTIRE drive home.

"They better not have messed up my clean room! I spent all day cleaning it!"

"I didn't want those leprechauns to come to our house!"

"Ask me what the worst part of my day was. It was those leprechauns!"

Josh was more than mad - he was IRATE. "I can't believe those leprechauns. I'm going to call them liars, cause they said they weren't coming to my house." As he helped me clean up he continued on his complaints. He was so upset that he wouldn't even eat the treats they left behind. He wanted nothing to do with them.

"Next year I'm going to have to shoot them."

I don't think there will be a next year. Poor Josh.

best preschool field trip ever...

Our preschool went on the best field trip. We took a tour of the Syracuse Fun Center. The kids got to bowl, take a tour behind the scenes of everything, bounced on the trampolines & bounce house, and ate pizza and ice cream. Did I mention this was all free! Josh jumped his heart out. We'll have to go back soon.learning to make the pizzas

Josh continued his swimming lessons in the Preschool Aquatics 3 class. Josh's highlight - wearing goggles. He did such a great job! He can now swim on his back and on his belly. He can tread water for 30 seconds. He loved swimming in the big pool in the deep (5 feet). He did such a great job that he gets to move up to the next class. He's moving onto Learn to Swim level 2. We'll start again in April. Hopefully he won't forget between now and then.

Josh and Ryan finally made it out to build a snowman (hopefully we won't have anymore snow this season). Josh insisted the snowman was anatomically correct. Afterwards we all had a snowball fight. Me being the poor sport quickly called it quits and went inside to get warm. Josh on the other hand, tried to stay outside as long as possible.

February and March are full of birthdays -especially Grandma birthdays! Within three weeks all of our grandmas have a birthday. We love to celebrate birthdays. free zoo day...

During the winter Hogle Zoo offers free zoo days once a month. Every month I plan on taking Josh. And every time I plan it, it snows or rains. So we were so happy to see warm weather in the forecast for this month's zoo day. Wouldn't you know it, I woke up feeling like crap - nasty head cold and cough. But being the wonderful mother that I am (can you hear the sarcasm in that?), I sacrificed to give Josh a fun outing.

I should have figured that I wasn't the only one to take advantage of free zoo day. Our adventure began by spending over 20 minutes to look for a parking spot. We met up with my mom. Josh was so excited especially for the train ride and carousel. It's all he talked about on the drive down. Imagine his disappointment when both were down for the day. Luckily the sight of the monkey house quickly changed his disposition.

Josh loved checking out all the animals. The favorites of this trip - snakes, monkeys and gorillas. I promised we'd go again soon so he could ride the train and carousel.

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. In the years past, I’ve always tried to make a big deal about holidays. Usually on Valentine’s we give presents, candy, etc. This year I slacked a bit.

Josh: Where’s my Valentine’s present?

Mom: I didn’t get you one.

Josh: But it’s Valentine’s Day.

Mom: Sorry, I didn’t get anyone a present.

Josh: You were supposed to give me a video game. I wanted a new video game.

Mom: Sorry

A few minutes later…

Josh: Where’s my Valentine’s candy?

Mom: I bought you candy and you ate it on Saturday.

Josh: But today is Valentine’s, not Saturday.

Mom: I’m sorry, you already ate it.

Josh: Ah man!

A few mintues later, I was making pancakes for breakfast. Right after I poured the batter I realized I forgot to make heart shapes, but I wasn’t about to tell Josh. I hoped he wouldn’t notice.

Josh: These aren’t heart pancakes

Mom: You’re right, they’re circles

Josh: But today is Valentines. You’re supposed to make hearts.

Mom: Sorry. Look you didn’t get me anything for Valentine’s so I guess you get circles.

In my defense though, I did “heart attack” his bedroom door. I guess next year I'll have to do more.

Later in the day when I got home from work, Josh was hiding in the kitchen. “Where’s Josh?” He then jumped out and yelled "Surprise! Happy Valentines day!" Josh and Ryan surprised me with yellow wildflowers, 2 bags of jelly bellys, a rose mylar balloon, a card and a "diamond" necklace and earring set. Too cute! After I put the necklace on –“You look beautiful!”

Later that night we were getting ready for bed. Josh gave me a big kiss (like 20 seconds long - on the verge of creepy). He was squeezing me so hard that he was shaking. "That was your big Valentine's kiss in bed!" I think we may be watching too many romantic movies. Time to stop.

We decided to go bowling. I love to bowl! I'm not very good at it, but still I love to bowl. I'll admit I'm very competitive, even with Josh. Nothing like trying to beat the four year old. Don't worry I'm not expecting the Mother of the Year award anytime soon :) We had a great time. Josh loved slipping and sliding in his awesome bowling shoes. Although he had the bumpers, he actually did pretty good. I think the fastest he got his ball going was 5 mph. Ryan kicked our butts though. He won. Next time I'll bring my A game and show him how it's really done.

So I still haven't found my mojo, but I figured I better do some blogging...

Part of my New Year's resolution was to not take so many pics. Last year my average was 100-200 per month. Some months I had over 500. Yikes! So looking back at January I guess I decided to stick to that resolution. I only took 15 pics. Which left me with little to blog and scrapbook.

Although there may be a lack of pics, we still had a few adventurous. His preschool class took a trip to Great Harvest Bread. The kids learned how bread was made. Josh learned that although salt and sugar look the same, the taste is completely different!

One night while I was making dinner I pulled out the pot lid. When I went to use it, it was gone. I knew I wasn't going crazy, when suddenly Josh appeared...

Apparently lids also make great shields. I think it may be awhile before I get my lid back.

Swimming lessons...

It has been way too long since my last post. Life was chaotic around the holidays. It took a few weeks, but hopefully we are back on track.

Right after the New Year, Josh started swimming lessons. We signed up with Josh's good friend Dash. During the winter is the way to go, we had a very small class and a great teacher. He learned how to float on his back, a few swimming techniques and how to go underwater. To say he was excited would be an understatement. He is a fish out of water! He did so well that he gets to skip Preschool #2 and goes straight to #3. Hopefully we'll start it in a month - mom needs a rest from going daily :)

We have had a busy month of December! We are excited for the Christmas season. There have been lots of fun activities. Here are a few of them...

My sister and her husband welcomed a new baby in June. They live in Michigan. We were anxious to meet little Kira. Cindi and Jeff decided to surprise the family for Christmas (I was in on the secret, so not much of a surprise for me). Josh loves spending time with his new cousin.

Josh's new favorite thing to do is play cowboy. He is constantly running around the house in all his western wear. Looks like it's a Cowboy Christmas for us...

For family night we decorated ginger bread houses. I think Josh and Ryan had more fun eating the candy. Sadly, the house was demolished by the next morning. Josh ate all of the candy, most of the frosting and some of the gingerbread...

We went down to see the lights at Temple Square. Not sure if we were going to make it. Josh got sick after we finished dinner. Luckily he started to feel better. As always, he was mesmerized by the fountains. We saw the "Big Jesus" - the Christus statue. I think Josh's favorite part was riding the front runner to Salt Lake.

Growing up we always had large rolls of paper for coloring. I loved it. I knew that when I had kids I wanted to have the same thing for them. Luckily you can buy rolls of paper for cheap at Ikea. I seem to always have two rolls on hand, which we go through fast!

On a recent visit to Ikea I found the Mala tabletop paper holder. It is the perfect accompaniment to their paper rolls. As with all Ikea purchases, assembly is required. Josh was anxious to see what our new toy was.

After it was all put together Josh proudly yelled "Wow! It's a giant toilet paper holder!" That's my boy!

We went to our annual ward Christmas party. This year it was a dinner, some musical numbers and a visit with Santa. The primary sang a few songs, of which Josh didn't know the words. But he went up and stayed with the kids (much better than the primary program).

I wished I didn't stop the video when I did. If I continued recording you would have heard "I gotta go potty" quickly followed by Josh turning to the primary yelling "I'll be back guys!"

After the singing, Santa came. Josh was anxious to tell him to put him on the good list.

Our holiday tradition is visiting the North Pole aka Christmas Village. Josh loved looking in all the houses and the Christmas displays. This year we learned it's better to come early - both in the season and time of night. There were less people and it wasn't as cold. It made for a perfect night!

I was hoping to post each day through out the month sharing the things I'm grateful for. As you can see from the date on my last post, it didn't go quite as planned. I caught the nasty flu bug - which I'm still battling with. Josh seems to have caught it as well. We also went out of town for the holidays. So alas, I'm missing quite a few days. For a quick summary of those days - I was extremely grateful for Nyquil, Ibuprofen, Kleenex, my warm comfy bed, a safe drive down to Vegas and Tuscon, wonderful family, my down pillow, nail files, Williams and Sonoma, Pottery Barn catalogs, DVD players for the car, etc.

This morning, after getting the turkey in the oven, I was able to sit down and check out facebook. It's been over a week since I've last logged on, lots to catch up on. As I read all about my friends and their happenings, I felt an immediate gratitude for each of them. I am so grateful for my friends. Although I don't have the opportunity to see or talk to most of them frequently, they play an important part in my life. They have helped carry me through my ups and downs, most of the time not realizing what a strength they were for me.

Thank you friends for always being there! You have made a huge impact on me. I am truly blessed with amazing friends!

Gratitude: Day 16

As if being sick wasn't enough to deal with yesterday, Josh came in at 2:30 in the morning declaring "I just peed myself". Since I had to wash his bedding, I figured I might as well do all of it.

It was so nice to get in my warm, clean, freshly-laundered smelling bed. Ahh! That's comfort!

Yesterday I was extremely grateful for Ny-quil/Day-quil (thank you Ryan for getting them for me) and for Grandma Jan who took Josh for the day so I could get some rest. Sunday afternoon, I got hit hard with the flu (luckily, respiratory). I survived. Hopefully it's gone.

We experienced a rare thing today.
I mean really rare.
In the last four years, I think it may have only happened five or six other times.
Josh slept in past eight!!!

Typically we are awake between 5-6 every (and I mean every) morning.

So today I was able to sleep in and also get a few quiet moments while he was still sleeping. I wish it happened more often.

I should have posted this yesterday, but I got a little behind...

Today I went shopping with Josh and Jan (Ryan's mom). We were on a quest for throw pillows and rugs. As we walked into the store, Josh immediately gravitated toward the Christmas display. This kid loves nutcrackers. We quickly grabbed Josh and went to the home decor section. Josh was getting bored fast. I wasn't very patient. Josh decided he had enough. He quickly ran off, weaving in and out of displays. Because I'm a gimp, I can't run fast. I soon lost sight of him.

My aggravation quickly turned into fear. I ran through out the store yelling his name. A few of the other shoppers and employees noticed what was going on. They were quick to join in the hunt. After what seemed like an eternity, really maybe 5-10 minutes, I found Josh. He was kneeling at the Christmas display mesmerized, completely unaware of what was going on.

I am so grateful for those shoppers, who took time out of their busy shopping to help me look for Josh. It is so nice to see how quickly strangers will come to your aid. After Josh was found many of them came up to me to make sure that both he and I were okay. Thank you to all of them for their kindness and support.

To day I wanted to share a few of my favorite things. They're nothing fancy. They just seem to make me happy and for that I am grateful...

I love the Barefoot Contessa. She is one of my favorite chefs. I love her cooking show. I would love to think that if I had the time and the money, I could cook just like her. Of all her cook books, I love the Barefoot Contessa Family Style. My favorite recipe - Chicken stew with dumplings. If you know me well then you'll know the perfect snack for me is a coke and jelly bellys. I buy a big bag (from Costco) and hide it in the kitchen. (If Ryan reads our blog, I've spilled the beans and I'm sure they'll be gone soon) Every day, sometimes twice a day, I grab a small handful and savor each one. My favorite flavor - buttered popcorn. Really, it's kind of gross, but I can't seem to stop eating them.

There is nothing worse than dry chapped hands. My favorite aunt Rosie introduced me to the best handcream - L 'Occitane. It's thick and buttery and makes my hands ever so happy! I keep one by the kitchen sink (so I don't get dish pan hands) and one in my purse. It's a little pricey, but I highly recommend it!
last but not least, I am in love with my day planner! I am OCD, I'll admit it. I have to schedule everything. I love to schedule everything - from my cleaning schedule to Christmas lists. It keeps me on task. If I don't get anything done in the day it's because I didn't write it in my planner. Thank you Mr Franklin Covey!

I am grateful for long hot showers! The kind of shower where you you've been in so long you don't remember if you washed your hair or anything else, so you end up doing it two to three times. The kind of shower where you can just stand there and all is perfect in the world. Ahh! I think I'll have to have one tonight!

But when I take a step back, I realize that there are so many things that I can do, not always as well as I'd like, but I am still able to do them and I ENJOY them! It's been a chaotic morning - and it's only 9:30. I've been dealing with a doctor's office that billed the wrong insurance company, never mind the fact that the appointment was back in June and they're just now billing us. And a different medical issue- trying to find medication for Ryan's gout, which is insanely expensive, that nobody stocks. To add to it, the phone has been ringing non-stop, mostly from Ryan trying to get updates on his medicine/dr info. AAAHHHHHHH! I just want to scream.

Yet, in the midst of all this medical chaos, I am grateful for the two things that have kept me sane through out...my large 44 oz coke and knowing that Josh is having fun at a play date. Thank you to both of them!

As I sit here thinking about what to type today, Josh is happily singing and doing puzzles right next to me. I have to pause and just smile. I am so grateful for the honor to be Josh's mom! As mentioned in almost every post - this kid is so stinkin' cute! I am so lucky!

After Ryan and I got married, we decided to wait a few years before trying to have kids (looking back I wish we hadn't). When we decided the time was right I was so excited. I started planning a nursery, kids names, etc. Then month after month, nothing happened. I was devastated. Finally after trying for two years, I was pregnant. Unfortunately after nine weeks, I had a miscarriage. I was truly heartbroken.

Luckily, I got pregnant six months later. We, especially Ryan, were nervous that I might have another miscarriage. But after a beautiful blessing from Ryan I found my peace and knew that everything would be alright. Sure enough, Josh was born nine months later. It was the best day!

Josh has brought so much into our home. There is never a dull moment. I have learned so much from him. He is a far better teacher than I am. I know that he will become a great man.

We are so blessed to have Josh in our home. I love you little man!

With all that goes on - family, work, the day to day activities, etc., life can get pretty chaotic. I'm grateful for those quiet moments that allow me to refocus and re-energize myself. Whether it's catching up on a video, reading a book, playing the piano or just sitting back soaking in my surroundings, I'm grateful for those moments. They don't happen as often as I would like, but when they do they are priceless.

Today Josh had a friend over for a play date. The two of them had so much fun together. They played non-stop for two hours. (It was the perfect amount of time for me to scrub and sanitize all the bathrooms and the kitchen.)

Today I am grateful for friends - not just my friends, but also Josh's friends. We are so fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful friends. It's fun to see how excited Josh gets when he gets to play with them. They are a great group of kids. I'm so thankful that he has good friends!

Today I am grateful for the most wonderful husband! I'm grateful for all of the sacrifices and the hard work that he does for our family. He is always supportive of me, no matter what the endeavor may be. I'm grateful that he wants me to be at home with Josh. Although I continually joke that he's a twelve year old boy trapped in a 35 year old man's body, I wouldn't have it any other way. He makes life entertaining and exciting. He continually brings a smile to my face with just the mere thought of him. I love him more and more each day. Thank you Ryan for being the best you. I love you!

After the day I've had today, I thought about not posting this as my gratitude moment. But good days or bad days, I'm grateful that I have a job that allows me to stay home with Josh.

Yes, I could spend many long hours telling you why I don't like my job, but really who loves their job? And despite my long list of cons, being able to be home will cancel out all of them. Luckily, my work has been extremely generous and flexible. And for that I am beyond grateful. So if you should here me nagging about work, please remind me what a blessing it really is.

Our book club is currently reading These is my Words by Nancy Turner. It's about a woman who lives in the Arizona Territory late 1800's. Started a little slow, but now I can't seem to put it down. Good book!

With my gratitude thinking cap on, as I was reading this morning I kept thinking I'm so grateful I didn't have to do that or that or that as the main character did. So today, I am extremely grateful for the era that I live in. I'm sure I could have survived living back then, but I am so grateful that I didn't. I fully appreciate all our modern amenities - hot showers, electricity, cars, hospitals, etc.

I'm sure that my future posterity will look back at our current lifestyle and wonder how we ever survived, but I am gladly doing it, knowing that at least I have my heater and air conditioning. :)

Every year I watch my friends post daily in November for things they are grateful for. This year I've decided to give it a try...

(no this isn't me. I look much better while I'm working out. ha ha)

I started working out. Today- day one. As I was going I thought about stopping early. I was rationalizing by how I'm going to be stiff and sore tonight. Then I had to stop myself (my thoughts, not my working out). Despite any aches and pains I may have, I am grateful that I have a body that works. I may have arthritis and am currently out of shape, but I am still able to move. I have been blessed with overall good health throughout my life. I have a healthy child and a healthy husband.

Today I am grateful for good health. I pray that it continues - as well as my working out. Then maybe I'll post a real picture of me :)

We had a great Halloween! Josh went out trick-or-treating. His goal was to get 1804 pieces of candy. So off he went with dad and his grandmas, despite the rain. I stayed home to pass out candy. After about 15 minutes who was back at the door - Josh. He was done. "I don't need a lot of candy. I don't want to get sick. I just want 14" followed by "It's OK, I'm good". So he spent the rest of the night passing out candy to all his friends.

Remember our milk jug lid tokens? I mentioned we had lots of milk jugs at our house. After weeks of collecting milk jugs (thanks Emilee & Jan), we put them to use as our Halloween decorations. It was an easy craft that I saw online (forgot where - sorry no credit is given). We cut out ghost faces out of black cardstock, glued them on, cut out holes in the back, shoved the lights in and there you have it. Easy peasy! It makes us look just a little more festive.

As Halloween has been approaching we've been trying to figure out what Josh wants to be. We've gone from a dinosaur (which we already had an awesome costume for) to Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Spiderman, Batman, Iron Man, etc.

We were really trying to push the dinosaur. But after a lot of persuasion, we went and bought an Iron Man costume. The minute the costume went on Josh was in character. He walked around with his muscles all flexed and talked in his deep super hero voice. He kept talking into his forearm to his "team" , as though he had a built in "walkie talkie". Too dang cute!

Our ward had it's Mom & Tots Halloween Party this morning. All of the kids came dressed up. Josh was excited to see that his best friend Ben also came dressed as Iron Man. The party was a huge hit. The kids played games, decorated treat bags, made a craft and ran non-stop. I love our Mom & Tots activities!

This week was Ryan's birthday. We love birthdays at our house, at least I do. Josh was so excited to give Ryan his birthday present and card. He picked them out all by himself. He got a football and a singing Cars card (for a grandson, but we altered it for a daddy).

I surprised Ryan by overnighting his favorite pizza from Chicago - Giradano's. Mmmm! Expensive pizza, but worth every penny for Ryan's reaction.

I also made him a Boston Cream Pie. I think we may have each gained five pounds from his birthday dinner/dessert. I love that we use the Lightening McQueen candle. I think it's been used for the last three years for everyone's birthday. Oh Well - it makes Josh happy

A few weeks ago, while the neighborhood kids were playing outside, the moms were visiting. The subject of allowance was brought up. I've been wanting to start an allowance for Josh. I want to start at an early age to teach him the importance of work and helping out in our home. Thinking about it I realized that money is not an important thing for Josh - it's TV, video games and computer time.

At the same time, I was thinking Josh watches too much TV, video games and computer time.

I decided that instead of having an allowance of money, Josh would get to earn his "TV" time. I made a list of easy tasks Josh can do each day. We also created these cute little tokens out of milk jug lids (we had a surplus of them thanks to our Halloween ghosts - hopefully another post). Each token represents 15 minutes of "TV" time. Josh is allowed to earn up to six tokens a day. He also can loose tokens with bad behavior.

After a week of tokens, I'm wishing I had started this before now. It made our week heavenly. Not only was Josh a great helper around the house, but we also had less whining and less "TV" time! Plus, it's a lot cheaper than paying money :)

After Wheeler Farm, Josh, Grandma and I went over to Gardner Village. Every Halloween their witches come out to play. It's always fun to see what they come up with. This year Josh wanted to have his face painted. When asked what he wanted he quickly responded with "a Dragon!" She did a great job. I've never seen Josh sit so still and quiet. He loved his dragon and was disappointed when it was time to wash it off.

The cousins got together for a fun day at Wheeler Farm. We fed animals, went on a hay ride, climbed some trees, went in the corn maze, and picked out pumpkins. Josh said that everything was his favorite.

It was time for Ryan to get a haircut. Because it's easy and cheap, the boys usually opt for a buzz. Josh decided he wants long hair, so passed on the buzz this time around, but he still wanted to participate. Ryan gave him the honors of buzzing his head.

This is how we listened to conference - taking a drive. We drove up through Monte Cristo, around Bear Lake, and down Logan Canyon. It made for a loooo-ong trip (5 1/2 hours), but well worth it. It was beautiful! We love looking at the changing leaves! Josh loved looking at the antelope, cows and horses. He also had a good nap. He did have one comment for our long trip - "I don't want to do this again!"

The circus was fabulous!!! Much better than last year. Josh loved that they didn't have the human canon (remember it was too loud last year). All of Josh's favorites were there - elephants and tigers. We loved the motorcyclist in the cage. I loved the trampoline guys - if only I were that flexible!

Primary Program...

Today was our primary program in church. Josh had a speaking part - "Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ first appeared to Joseph Smith". He's had is memorized for weeks. He frequently confused it with prayers.

On our way to church I asked Ryan if he thought Josh would be able to say his part. "I don't think he'll even sit up on the stand."

We got to church (30minutes early - a first for us!). I took Josh up to show him his seat. I actually had to sit with him for a few minutes. He wasn't too sure about it. But he said he was fine. So I went down. Josh had lots of fun waving hi to us and the grandparents.

Then sacrament meeting started. Josh started looking a little concerned. It was time for the primary program. Josh was in tears. I went up on stage to sit with him. He wanted to go sit with daddy. I convinced him to stay up. Songs were sung, kids did their parts.

Then it came time for Josh's part. He buried his head. It was up to me. I started his part. Half way through Josh started hitting me. He didn't want to do it and he didn't want me to do it either. I finished. Moments later, Josh started crying. He was now ready to do his part. Sorry, it was too late. Needless to say, we finished the program sitting down in the audience.

So thanks to the grandparents for coming to see me in the Primary Program. Luckily for them, Josh recited his part at dinner, in lieu of the prayer.

I'm always redecorating my house, at least in my head. I'm thinking it's time to put those thoughts into action. I want to change up my living room. Due to a small budget, new furniture is not on the list. Next best thing, new pillows and accessories. So I'm on the look out for the perfect fabrics. I think I've found one, now I need to find a few more to coordinate. I'm trying to convince Ryan we should also reupholster our dining chairs in it. I don't think it'll be too much. What do you think?

While the boys were away hunting, I got a little bored. So, I decided to get a little crafty. I saw the cutest pillow at Adventures of One Crazy Lady. It looked pretty easy and it was! I love how it turned out! I love the buttons! I think it will go great with my chosen fabric.

I don't think Ryan loves it as much. But what does he know, if it was up to him we'd have camo and deer antlers all over the house :)

It was a big weekend for Josh - his first camping and hunting trip. Ryan took him up Spanish Fork Canyon to hunt grouse (for those that don't hunt = it's a bird). Ryan said he had lots of fun, except he really missed his mom at night (Ahh!) Looks like Josh has a new weekend hobby. They're planning on going hunting again on Saturday.

Layton Police Dept...

Our ward's mom & tots group took a tour of the Layton Police Department. Josh was so excited to go. Then we got there. He saw the police officer all dressed up and changed his mind. He wanted to get out of there as fast as he could. Luckily his friends Carter and Dash showed up so he decided to stay. The kids had their fingerprints and pictures taken. We learned what police officers carry in their belts. Josh wants to get real handcuffs.

Josh's favorite was checking out the police car and motorcycle. Officer Yuen let Josh turn on the lights on the police car. He also let the kids "ride" his motorcycle.

After all the birthday parties, Josh's birthday was finally here! Ryan surprised us and took the day off of work. The day started with presents from mom and dad. Josh got a new "laptop" (kid version), Night at the Museum 1 & 2 DVD, a pre-school work book and a dino book. We also told him we'd go to ToysRUs to pick out a new toy. Then it was off to pre-school. The kids all sang happy birthday and put a candle in his treat.

After preschool, as promised, we took Josh to ToysRUs. He picked out a Toy Story video game that plugs into the TV. He was so excited to go home and play it. Unfortunately, it wasn't a fun game. So we quickly packaged it back up and took it back. ToysRUs was nice enough to let us upgrade the game. Josh picked out the Toy Story game for the XBox - much better!

We let Josh pick where he wanted to go to dinner (secretly hoping he wouldn't pick Chuck E Cheese). Josh picked Del Taco. What did he order? A cheeseburger and french fries! But at least he had fun playing on their playground.

Although we had two birthday parties last weekend, complete with cake and cupcakes, Josh thought he needed a birthday cake on his actual birthday. So I quickly made a chocolate cake. At the last minute, Josh was insistent that it should be a Batman cake. I wasn't going to the store, so I had to think of what I could do with a partial tube of red frosting. I thought it turned out pretty good for on the fly.

Josh is turning four! I can't believe how fast he is growing up! To celebrate the upcoming big day, he had his first "friend" party. It was a cowboy roundup. He invited his best friends - Ben, Logan and Carter (who couldn't make it). By order of the sherriff (Josh) girls were not allowed. Every cowboy needs a hat, bandanna and gun. We also painted on mustaches for those that wanted them.

We played a cowboy version of Pin the tail on the donkey. Either we have some excellent players or sneaky cheaters. Everyone seemed to land on the right spot...

There was a shoot-out. The boys had loads of fun shooting their guns...
We had cupcakes. Although Josh says that cowboys don't eat cupcakes...
Every cowboy needs some trail mix. The boys had lots of fun making (and eating) their own trail mix with m&ms, jelly beans, marshmallows, teddy grahams, goldfish, pretzels, and raisins.
The cowboys needed to see what trails to follow. Good thing they had a map!

Luckily I found some motivation today.
I rewashed/washed and folded seven, yes I said seven, loads of laundry.
This doesn't even count the bedding. That's on tomorrow's to-do list.

Can someone please explain to me why Josh will turn his nose up to yummy things like coconut, nuts, mashed potatoes, etc. But put a can of disgusting sardines in front of him and he immediately begins to salivate. I don't understand it! Ryan on the other hand, appreciates Josh's taste for sardines.

Ryan has always loved sardines and any other type of canned fish. He started to give Josh a little bite. He quickly learned he has to give Josh his own can, because he eats them all. GROSS! Just the thought seriously makes me nauseated!

Last night, Josh told us all about our new dog...

He's a black dog named Digger.

According to Josh he won't pee on my carpet or chew his toys. He might dig in the garden, but Josh said he'd shoo him out. At night, Digger would sleep with Josh, in Josh's bed. We could build Digger a dog house and put it in the middle of the yard, but he won't live out there until he's bigger.

"Don't worry mom. I'm not allergic to dogs anymore."

Josh promises to take care of him and walk him every day.

Josh thinks that we should go on Wednesday to the pet store to get him. I told him we already have plans on Wednesday. "OK, I can wait until Thursday."

Josh was just so cute about it. He has thought everything through. At one point, I was starting to give in on the idea, especially if Josh will sleep in his own bed. But then the thought of me cleaning dog-pee carpet pops back. Sorry Josh. Try again later (which he does first thing this morning). I have a feeling I'm not going to win this battle. He really knows how to work me!

Davis County Fair...

It's that time of year again - time for the Davis County Fair. We went with our good friends - the Mayes'. Josh was excited to pet all of the animals. He was hoping to pet an alligator, but alas they didn't have any this year :). As always, riding the ponies was a huge hit.

The kids had fun on the rides. Josh's favorite was the bounce house, until he got hit in the face from another kid.

A trip to the fair is not complete without eating something fried. So, Ryan and I enjoyed a fried twinkie. YUM!!! Josh was adement about getting cotton candy. " I want some sheep candy!" After two bites, he was reminded that he doesn't like it

Pineview part 2...

We went up to Pineview Reservoir again. This time we went with Grandpa Chris, Grandma Jan and Trevor. The water was frigid - so no swimming for the adults. We forgot Josh's sand tools, so we had to improvise with plastic cups. Although Josh was a little ornery, it was a fun time!

We had planned another camping trip for this weekend. Josh was so excited to go, especially since cousin Trevor was going to join us. Unfortunately, Ryan got an infection in his elbow (turns out it might be gout, but that's a different post). So we were home bound, again. This time, we set up a tent in the backyard for the boys. It was Josh's first time sleeping outside.

Josh had fun helping Ryan set up the tent. He loves using tools!Josh wasn't too sure about sleeping outside. He was kind of scared. To distract him, Trevor and Josh told each other ghost stories. He also had fun playing with his flashlight.Overall, Josh did well sleeping outside. He made it most of the night - 4:00 am is when he decided he'd had enough.

I wanted to put Josh in swimming lessons this summer. Unfortunately, everyone else had the same idea and they were faster to sign up. Due to the list being full, we'll have to wait until next year :( But that won't stop us from swimming this year~!

Josh loves being in the water! This summer he has overcome his fear of putting his head in the water. He's even picked up a few swimming moves on his own. While we were at the pool last week, Josh wanted to show me his "swimming". Surprisingly, he was actually swimming. He had so much fun!!!

Albion Basin...

This weekend Josh and I went up with the Petersen clan to Albion Basin. It is a beautiful hike! I loved all of the wild flowers! Josh loved being in the "forest". He was continually on the look out for moose, bear and deer. We had to be careful if we saw a "momma moose, cuz she will mattack us!"

We came across some ferocious mountain lions. Don't they look scary ?!

Josh's cousin Trevor is visiting from San Fransisco. While he's here, we have LOTS of activities planned. First on the list - This is the Place Heritage Park. We were joined by Grandma Jan, Cousins KC, Danni, Stacy and Aunt Linda. We all had a great time learning about life in pioneer times. It reaffirmed to me how grateful I am not to have been a pioneer. I love my ac and cold glass of coke on hot days like this!

Pineview...

As part of our "camping" weekend, we spent the day at Pineview Reservoir. We had a fun day of swimming, sand castles, water fights, and a picnic. Josh practiced his swimming - thanks to the help of his "life saver" and swim vest. He's getting pretty brave - he's not afraid of putting his head under water. We can't wait to go back!

So for weeks Josh has been so excited to go camping. It's all he's talked about... "I cook hot dogs and mahshmewos and I sleep in a tent" . Finally the weekend had come. It was time to go camping. The chance of thunderstorms and the lack of motivation somehow managed to get in the way. But we didn't want to let Josh down, so we made a few alterations.

We decided to bring camping to our own front yard. Thanks to our neighbors fire pit, we still had our hot dogs and marshmallows. It was 100 degrees outside and we sat around the fire pit. Not a good way to cool down. Josh had a blast! No surprise, he'd rather eat the marshmallows straight from the bag. No need to cook them.

Logan, our neighbor, was outside playing with his fishing pole. Josh didn't want to be left out, so he grabbed his pole and ran out the door. Josh wasn't doing to well casting his line, so being the good friend that he is, Logan showed Josh how to do it. The two of them sat out on the curb casting and reeling it in. Unfortunately there weren't any fish caught, just some good pictures and memories. They are too cute!

Celebrating our Independence...

Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays - BBQs, fireworks, summer fun, parades, etc. This year was no exception. Since Independence Day was on Sunday, we celebrated three days straight!

Saturday we BBQ-ed and "fireworked" with my family (pics on an earlier post). Sunday, we BBQ-ed with Ryan's family. Monday, we went to the Layton Parade with Grandma Jan. I love parades! We found a great spot, a little warm, but still great. Josh loved the horses and collecting candy - he got quite an assortment of taffy. Later that evening, we had yet another BBQ with our great neighbors. The weekend of fun ended in a bang of fireworks, thanks to our firework fanatic neighbor, Chris. They put on an amazing show!

Josh and I were talking about the different sizes of things and how they compare - small, medium, large. He finally seemed to understand...
